“비가 거세게 내리던 날, 고양이는 창문 앞에 앉아 하늘을 올려다보았습니다. 시꺼먼 먹구름이 하늘을 점점 삼킬 듯했어요. 고양이는 파란 하늘을 영영 볼 수 없을 것 같은 생각에 무서워졌습니다. 고양이는 이불 속으로 몸을 숨겼습니다. 그리고 이내 잠이 들었어요⋯.”
몇 년 전, 마음이 먹구름으로 가득 차 있던 때가 있었습니다. 그때 메모장에 글을 썼습니다. 먹구름을 무서워한 고양이 이야기였어요. 막연히 두려움이 밀려올 때, 고장 난 마음을 어떻게 해야 할지 몰라 글을 쓰며 마음을 다독였습니다. 처음부터 답을 찾기 위한 이야기는 아니었습니다. 그저 그 과정 속의 이야기입니다. 때때로 먹구름이 밀려올 때 고양이를 떠올리곤 했습니다. 그리고 마침내 그 친구들을 종이에 그리게 되었습니다.

The Cat Afraid of Dark Clouds
"On a day when the rain was pouring down heavily, the cat sat by the window and looked up at the sky. Dark clouds seemed to gradually swallow the sky. The cat was frightened by the thought that it might never see the blue sky again. She hid under the blanket and soon fell asleep⋯."
A few years ago, there was a time when my heart was filled with dark clouds. During that period, I wrote a note about a cat afraid of dark clouds. When vague fears overwhelmed me, and I didn't know how to fix my broken heart, I wrote to comfort myself. The story wasn't meant to find answers from the beginning. It was merely a story of that journey. As years passed, I occasionally read the note saved on my memo pad. Eventually, I decided to illustrate it.
Dark clouds appear over the heads of both children and adults. Are there dark clouds over your head right now?
